NC House Restaurant Carry Vote Delayed… Again

If you listened to Episode 26 of the Triangle Tactical Podcast, you probably heard Ben and I talk about how the restaurant carry bill in the NC House (HB 937) was supposed to be heading to the House floor on Tuesday April 30th, 2013. Well, for one reason or another, the bill got postponed until May 1st.

May 1st (yesterday) came and went without a vote, and now we are being told that HB937 has been postponed until May 6th, 2013. Some are reporting that they received an explanation from Speaker Tillis’ office stating that they are waiting on some sort of financial statement to arrive before the bill can be voted on. Normally this wouldn’t be all that big of a deal, but this session of the House is drawing to a close in the next 2 weeks, and any bills that are not voted on, and sent to the Senate will die.

If this situation seems like a deja-vu to you, that’s because it is. Last year the NC Senate had a restaurant carry bill that had already been passed by the house waiting for a vote, and despite promising to give it a vote, they let it die.

Just a few weeks ago, HB17 was stripped of it’s restaurant carry provision by the bill’s sponsor before it went to committee. The Senate also has a restaurant carry bill (SB342) which appears to also be stuck in committee.

If we want restaurant carry in NC, we need to make our voices heard! Call your reps and demand a vote! They have been dangling this carrot in front of our faces for too long. We gave them our votes, and now it’s time for them to repay their end of the bargain.
