Looking Down on Those who Don’t Shoot Much

I found myself reading a Reddit /r/CCW thread this afternoon that brought up a great question regarding concealed carry for those who don’t have the budget to shoot and train a lot. The thread creator was asking about living paycheck to paycheck as it relates to concealed carry, and specifically this question: 2: do you experienced gun enthusiasts look down on people who carry in my current situation? Would you see me as a liability …

Concealed Carry Classes Aren’t Training, and that’s Okay

There was a recent discussion online where someone mentioned that after completing their state mandated concealed carry class, they still felt undertrained to carry. The fact is that concealed carry classes are meant to ensure that applicants leave the class with a minimum amount of gun safety, use of force law, and gun handling skills. That’s it, and that’s okay. Let’s face it, here in NC you can be a downright awful shooter and still …

CCW Confessions: I’ve Been Made Twice

In about 4 years of carrying concealed daily, I’ve been made twice: If I’m carrying behind the hip I generally try to avoid bending over or squatting down in public as much as possible, but sometimes it can’t be avoided. I was carrying my Glock 19 in an IWB holster behind my hip. It was a hot Carolina summer afternoon, and I had to run to the store to get dog food. For the longest …

Review Revisited: G-Code INCOG with Mag Caddy

Last year I posted my thoughts on the excellent G-Code INCOG holster for my Springfield XDs 9mm. Full Disclosure: The folks at G-Code generously provided me with the mag caddy for this review. Before the INCOG mag caddy arrived I’d never held …

A Cameron man called authorities Wednesday after firing a shot at would-be burglars inside his residence. He said he was taking a shower about 3:20 p.m. when he heard a noise coming from his living room. He said he …

House Rules for Guns

Do you have house rules for guns? I’ve got a couple that I implemented a long time ago, and I still follow: No chambered rounds in the house. I started this way back when I first started carrying concealed. I was somewhat inexperienced with handguns, and it made me feel better to have an empty chamber when home. Years and years later, I still pop a round into the chamber on my way out the …

Might as Well Just Get Rid of Gun Free Zones…

A bill introduced in Michigan this week will allow special carry privileges for victims of violent crime. But, under a piece of legislation just introduced by a Saginaw Township lawmaker, victims of domestic violence or stalking would be given special permission to carry a concealed weapons in those “gun-free” zones. So, once someone becomes a victim, they would gain the ability to carry concealed in places that regular concealed carry permit holders cannot carry. I …

Stickywire Holsters Mini IWB Hybrid Holster Review

Several months back after picking up my S&W Shield 9mm, I was shopping around for a hybrid inside the waistband holster for the pistol. I’ve always used Crossbreed Supertuck holsters, but due to their several month backorder at the time, I decided to look for a more local option that would get me the holster sooner for less money out of pocket. I had read many fantastic reviews of the Stickywire Holsters Hybrid IWB holsters …
