[Gear Mod] Adding a Pocket Clip to a Flashlight

I’ve been wanting an inexpensive flashlight to use at work. Something about using my Streamlight ProTac HL that cost $100, and takes $10 worth of batteries in an environment where it could get lost or stolen doesn’t sit right with me. I knew that I had this old 2AA Coleman LED flashlight kicking around the house,  and it’s always been a great light, especially for the $20 I paid for it a few years back. …

Carry A Knife

You never know when it will come in handy… Sad that there were all those people standing around wanting to help saying “Who’s got a knife? Anybody have a knife? We need a knife!” Stay sharp.

Question of the Day: Knife + Flashlight or Gun?

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a hundred times that if I had to choose between carrying my knife and flashlight every day or my gun, I’d choose the knife and flashlight every time. I use my knife and flashlight every single day, and thankfully I’ve never had to use my gun. What say you? If you had to choose, which would it be?

Carry a Dang Flashlight!

On Christmas Eve (one of the busiest shopping days of the year) I found myself in a large retailer in the middle of the afternoon when the power went out. For about 60 seconds it was completely black in the building before the emergency lighting kicked on. When the lights went black I pulled out my Streamlight ProTac HL, double tapped the button to the 600 lumen mode and I lit up the entire main …

Streamlight ProTac HL Tailcap/Switch Mod

Last fall I picked up a Streamlight ProTac HL flashlight to use for the Day-Night-Day match, since at the time I didn’t have a suitable flashlight. I had more than a little trouble with the light during the match, and afterwards I considered making some modifications to it, but just couldn’t bring myself to start hacking on (what at the time was) a $100 flashlight. Fast forward a year or so, and I’ve actually been …

If You Don’t EDC a Flashlight, You’re Wrong

Last week my wife and I slipped out on a weeknight for dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. It was a dark, rainy night, and we just wanted to get out of the house for a bit. I, of course, was packing my usual EDC gear (Springfield XDs 9mm in a Crossbreed MiniTuck, the Streamlight ProTac HL flashlight that’s been filling EDC duty after my 5.11 ATAC PLx died, keys, wallet, etc.) While we were …

My EDC Graveyard

I’m an EDC nerd, and I think I’ve been one since a was a little kid with a pocket knife. I’m not one of the EDC guys that carries a ton of stuff, but I like the stuff that I do carry to actually work. Unfortunately over the years I’ve collected a bunch of EDC gear that just doesn’t do it for me. Everybody who carries a gun needs to have a J-Frame S&W, right? …

Spyderco Delica 4 with Emerson Wave Review

With all of the knife talk recently, I thought I’d finally get around to writing a review of my current EDC pocket knife, the Spyderco Delica 4 with the Emerson Wave feature. I’ve owned this knife for close to 4 years now, and it’s been a good companion during that time. It’s always a lot of fun to review an item that I’ve used extensively. Let’s have a closer look at what’s good, and what’s …

5.11 ATAC PLx Flashlight Review

A few weeks ago I picked up a 5.11 ATAC PLx flashlight to be my new EDC (every day carry) light. I’ve previously carried a Streamlight Stylus Pro, which served me well for a number of years but eventually the pocket clip wore out, and I ended up losing the light shortly thereafter. I really liked the form factor of the Stylus Pro, but instead of buying another one I decided to look and see …

Maxpedition Jumbo EDC Versipack Review

About two years back I purchased a Maxpedition Jumbo EDC Versipack to carry my every day carry (EDC) gear. I wanted a bag to carry some essentials (pistol, spare magazines, water bottle, small first aid “boo boo” kit) and a couple other things. Since receiving the bag, I’ve used it in a number of different ways, from just tossing it in the trunk when commuting, to using it as a range bag, and I’ve even …
