USPSA, Building vs. Buying Gear – TTP – Ep. 22

Episode 22- Shownotes

Legal Update:

Last week we mentioned that CT was looking into passing some really bad gun laws, and since episode 21, those have been signed into law.

Beretta is looking at packing up and moving out of Maryland if they pass any more restrictive gun laws.

Building vs. Buying Competition Gear:

Some holsters to avoid for competition:

  • Fobus
  • Blackhawk Serpa
  • Foldable nylon holsters
  • Crossdraw, shoulder rigs, small of back, and drop leg holsters

Recommended local holster makers:

Good Inexpensive holster options:

DIY Holsters and Gear:

Knifekits.com, and Old Faithful Holsters both sell holster making kits. I’ve also done several posts here on Triangle Tactical about making your own gear out of Kydex:

If you are handy at all, making your own Kydex gear is a great way to go. You can also make all kinds of other things with it other than holsters, like knife sheaths, magazine pouches, and much more.

Plug Of The Week:

This week, we plugged Kydexforum.com. This site looks like a great community for those looking to get started making their own gear.

Tip Of The Week:

Know your 180! If the 180 is questionable, ask the Range Officer before shooting. This weekend I ran into a stage with a “diagonal 180” and I nearly got myself disqualified because of it.

Bonus Episode Coming This Week!

Wednesday, April 10th, at 8:00PM

Thursday, April 11th, at 8:00PM, Ben and I will be doing a live Google+ Hangout where we will go in depth into USPSA scoring and classifiers. Admittedly, I’m not all that familiar with USPSA scoring, so Ben will be schooling me as well!

  1. Hi, I was just listening to episode 22 and heard your comments on the “Yankee Block” regarding NorthEast gun laws. Anytime I hear this type of comment on a podcast I like to ask the podcaster if his home State has Constitutional Carry? I do enjoy the podcast. I live in Vermont and feel sorry for the people that have to ask their State for permission to carry a firearm. Keep up the good work. Sean
