New Year News Roundup – 63

After taking last week off from recording, this week we wrap up some of the big news stories that have went down since our last episode:

The News!

Glock has announced the Glock 41 and Glock 42. Our thoughts are a solid ‘meh’ on both of these. We’ve talked a lot about the Glock 42, but the Glock 41 is equally unappealing to me. The Glock 41 will be a “practical tactical” sized .45ACP. Basically a Glock 34 in .45. Many are talking about how great this will be for competition, but we aren’t sure what kind of competition that is… We mentioned Mas Ayoob’s video about the Glock 42 where his trigger pull measurement on the G42 is just a bit higher than the 5.5lbs advertised by Glock…

Remington has announced the R51 pistol, which unlike Glock appears to be an absolute home run for singlestack 9mm concealed carry pistols.

President Obama is announcing some “executive actions” on gun control. Essentially what is happening here is there are some states who aren’t sending information to the NICS background check system because they believe that would be in violation of the HIPAA privacy laws. The Obama administration is just coming out clarifying that the information wouldn’t violate HIPAA, and they won’t enforce it if it does. Keep in mind, these aren’t Executive Orders, they are “executive actions” which are essentially nothing more than a press release.

The citizens of Connecticut have become subject to a new law that is bound to make many otherwise law abiding citizens into felons. As of January 1, 2014 citizens of Connecticut need to have registered their “high capacity” magazines, and their now illegal “assault weapons” with the state. The kicker here is that magazines aren’t serialized, so I’m not sure how they plan on enforcing the registration law. As we all know, this won’t have any effect on crime, other than turning otherwise law abiding gun owners into felons.

The Misguided Moms were purchased by Bloomberg’s Illegal Mayors recently. This isn’t really newsworthy, but I can’t help but think that the only reason they did this is because they are broke, and they need Mike’s money to stay afloat. We’ll see what the future brings, but I’m not expecting much more than whining, and playing to the press from these folks.

Magpul has announced that they are finally packing up and leaving Colorado. Their HQ is headed to Texas, and they are temporarily moving their manufacturing stuff into a pre-existing building in Wyoming while they build their own plant in WY as well. Colorado Democrats are starting to catch the fallout from the state losing an $80 million/year business…

Plug of the Week:

This week we plugged the Carolina Shooters Club Community. Ben and I are both Staff Writers over there now, so you’ll be seeing some gear reviews from us and other stuff over the year. Make sure that you either sign up and follow the forum over there, or get on the Triangle Tactical email list so you get all of our posts when we post them.

(Side Note: If you follow us on Facebook, you probably aren’t seeing all that many of our posts. Facebook changed their algorithm recently and they want us to pay for people who have already ‘liked’ our page to see our posts. Yeah… with all the money I’m making from this site… riiight)

Tip of the Week:

Back to basics this week. Evaluate your daily routine and make sure that you aren’t cutting any corners when it comes to gun safety, especially if you are in any position of influence. Notice in the new Glock 42 announcement video the person doing the talking muzzle sweeps his fingers a few times, and then at the end points it right at his stomach. Mas Ayoob on the other hand shows us the pistol in a completely safe manner. I’m pretty disappointed that Glock would allow this video to get published with this sloppy gun handling. Don’t be Glock.
