Should I just shoot one gun, or several very different guns in competition?

Russ in Pensacola sends in today’s Q&A podcast voicemail asking if he should shoot just one gun, or several very different guns in competition.

I think either answer is the right answer, depending on what your goals are. If your goal is to have a bunch of fun, and shot whatever tickles your fancy, then by all means, shoot whatever you like.

However, if your goal is to get really good at shooting, and truly master shooting, I think you need to pick a gun, and stick with it for an extended period of time. Dave Ramsey (talk radio, get out of debt guy) tells people who are trying to get out of debt that they shouldn’t try to invest, pay off their mortgage, and save for their kids college all at the same time, because they’ll lose sight of the goal. I think the same thing applies for shooting too.
