I was made aware of this article this morning via Carolina Shooters Club. Basically, WRAL news published an article about concealed carry, and then they added at the bottom of the article a search box that allows one to search the database of concealed carry permit holders in NC by address.
Sure, the names of permit holders are public record, but getting ahold of these records, and adding them to a publicly searchable database is disgusting.
WRAL, why do you feel the need to add law abiding citizens who have passed a background check, submitted fingerprints, and do not have a criminal past to a database not unlike the database used for criminal sex offenders? Why would you do this?
I am completely disgusted by this. Adding these addresses to the database does nothing but put those who have a carry permit at more risk, by letting criminals know where there are homes that contain firearms. Hell, being that the database fire not contain the street number, it also, in my opinion increases the risk to concealed carry permit holders neighbors as well.
