Over the past week, there have been 4 armed robberies, and a kidnapping in North Raleigh.
3 of the incidents took place at the beginning of the week, and last night a woman was kidnapped from her home, and forced to drive the suspect to an ATM where she eventually escaped from the vehicle. From what I can tell by reading local news stories, the Raleigh Police Dept. believes that all of these incidents are connected.
911 calls from the first 3 incidents
I used to live smack dab in the center of all of these incidents, and I still work on that side of town. Speaking with people today, it seems that many are on edge.
Here’s a couple tips to avoid becoming a victim:
1. Avoid being out alone after dark. Most of these incidents have taken place in public places after dark. If you can avoid being there, you don’t become a victim.
2. Carry your pistol on your person. I’d bet that this perpetrator goes straight for the purse, and if that’s where your pistol is, you are out of luck.
3. Carry at home. Some of you are saying “duh!” and others are saying “Why would I carry in my own home?”. The fact is, it appears that this guy is getting bolder, because the last incident he abducted someone from their home before robbing them.
4. Keep your head up, and your eyes scanning for trouble. Put down the cell phone, candy crush can wait until later.
5. Tag along with your wife to the store. Don’t send her out alone.
If you are finding this post from a search engine, and you don’t carry a gun, that’s OK. There are several places in North Raleigh to source some self defense tools like pepper spray. Here’s who I recommend:
1. Carolina Gunrunners sells Kimber Pepper Spray, which is top of the line, fire in a bottle.
2. I believe North Raleigh Guns also sells pepper spray.
3. Sporting Goods stores like Dicks Sporting Goods sell generic pepper spray, but the quality isn’t the same as the Kimber stuff that I mentioned above.
Stay frosty.
