Flying with a Firearm – Revisited

Some time ago, I shot a quick video about how I fly with a firearm in my checked baggage, and every year about this time I get a couple questions from readers on this topic, so I thought I would revisit it once more. I’m not linking to the video, because I was really fat back then, and it’s somewhat embarrassing… click to enlarge I tend to go above and beyond the TSA and airline …

Southnarc: Managing Unknown Contacts

As a community of self defense minded folks we’re quick to practice our shooting skills, and even quicker to buy a new gadget to carry. One thing that most of us are probably lacking is practice and training when it comes to avoiding incidents all together. We talk about situational awareness, keeping our heads on a swivel and all that stuff, but not much about what to do after we are confronted by someone. I …

Why Carry at Home?

I think this is a pretty good reason. Last year there was a pretty heinous home invasion in downtown Raleigh, in a “good” neighborhood. pleaded guilty to rape, sex offense, robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. I carry at home because if someone gets the jump on me, I won’t have time to open the safe and get my gun.

It’s Time for Constitutional Carry

This week has shown us two examples of why gun registration is a raw deal for law abiding gun owners: An Illinois man successfully defended himself and his daughter from a midnight break-in using his gun. Instead of getting time to deal with the stress that must come along with taking a life, he was arrested and charged with having an expired FOID (registered gun owner) card. Did I mention that he was on crutches? …

TWANGnBANG Shoots a Windshield

TWANGnBANG on YouTube does some pretty awesome testing with my favorite 9mm round for concealed carry and a car windshield. Check it out! Note how little penetration the round gets into the gel block after going through the windshield. Interesting stuff.

Just to be Clear: Your Laser Sight is a Sight

And your weapon mounted light, is a sight too. We all read the news earlier this week about the NY State Homeland Security cheif being incredibly irresponsible using his laser sight as a laser pointer during a presentation. This is something that we all agree isn’t kosher. Unfortunately if we swap out laser with weapon light, some folks I  the firearm community change their mind. Let’s back up a bit: I want a weapon mounted …

Open Carry in a School?

Michigan has some crazy messed up concealed carry laws. Within the past couple of years, they have passed some legislation that allows for concealed carry permit holders to open carry in pistol free zones (but it’s still illegal for them to carry concealed in PFZ). A poster over at the Great Lakes 4×4 forum received this email from school administration after a ccw holder LEGALLY open carried a firearm in the school: November 22, 2013 …

Listener Content: NC CCW Information

A couple weeks back, I received an email from a listener who only identified himself as Mike. He attached an document that he created that goes through much of the North Carolina CCW information, and asked me to share it. I read through it, everything looked accurate to me, so check it out. As with anything though, doublecheck the statutes, as we’re all human. North Carolina CCW Information Document Download.

“I’m a big guy, I can conceal anything!”

Beeeeeeeee Esssssssss! I used to be pretty fat. Back around the beginning of this year I was up around 285-290lbs pretty consistently. I’m also pretty tall at around 6’2″. If I’ve heard it once, I’ve heard it a thousand times: “I’m a big guy, I can conceal anything!” It’s a line of crap. When I was fatter, my waistband was tighter, and that made even buttoning my pants tough, not to mention trying to conceal …

I Hate Shopping

It’s time for me to buy some new clothes, as I’ve ungrew most every pair of pants I own. This, unfortunately, requires trying on clothes at the store. Today my bride and I made an impromptu stop at a clothing store, and I decided to try on some jeans. No big deal right? I didn’t think so either until I got into the fitting room, and realized I had a pistol in my waistband. I …
