Howard Leight Impact Sport Ear Muffs – Long Term Review

I purchased a pair of Howard Leight Impact Sport Ear Muffs after looking for some budget oriented electronic ear-pro in September 2010. These earmuffs came highly recommended from several different websites, so I decided to give them a try. These muffs offered several things I wanted, the first being a low profile muff, that does not get in the way when shooting long guns. At the time I was shooting a lot of sporting clays, …

Hornady Tap FPD 124gr 9mm

Ok, not a review, but I thought this was odd. Picked up a couple 20rd boxes of Hornady Tap FPD 124gr 9mm yesterday. Left them sealed until today, and when I opened them up, I was surprised to find that they actually contain 25 rounds, when the box is clearly labeled 20. Odd. Anyways, I’ve carried Hornady Critical Defense in the past, and these are loaded with the same FTX bullet, minus the little red …

Galco Matrix M7X Holster Review

Several months ago I was searching for a holster that would go on and off easily in the car. I liked the idea of a snap slide holster, so I began my search. I looked at many of the nice leather options by several different companies and eventually found the Galco Matrix M7X series of holsters, and I was intrigued by the low price, and the few reviews I could find online were favorable, so …

Troy 13″ TRX Extreme handguard – Long Term Review

When building my AR-15 last year, I decided I wanted to run a long, slim handguard, with a low profile, and I did not want full length rails. I played with a friends Noveske rifle that came from the factory with the TRX extreme, and I was hooked. Out of the box impression: Upon receiving the TRX Extreme 13″ handguard, I opened the box, and took it out, and I was astonished at how lightweight …

AR-15 Magazine Followers – Magpul vs. Brownells USGI Tan

Some time back Brownells began producing USGI magazines with a tan no-tilt follower. As soon as these were released, many people, myself included were interested, as no-tilt followers tend to run more reliably in AR-15 magazines than the old USGI green and black followers. One of my first purchases after buying some USGI magazines with the green followers was a handful of Magpul no-tilt followers for them. I was having some feeding issues with the …

Primary Arms Micro vs. Bushnell TRS-25 for AR-15

I recently picked up a Primary Arms Micro to go along with my Bushnell TRS-25, and I was very surprised to see that they are very similar. This post isn’t going to be a review of the Primary Arms Micro, as I haven’t zeroed it, or even shot the rifle with it installed, so I cannot say anything about the durability of it. After comparing the two, I noticed that some of the parts on …

Desantis Thumb Break Scabbard – Initial Impressions

I received a Desantis Thumb break scabbard from Cabelas a couple days ago, and I have been carrying my Glock 19 in it for about 48 hours now. I’ve been looking for a leather pancake style holster for outside the waistband (OWB) carry fro some time, and I was on the fence about attempting to make one myself, or just buying one. I really wanted something with a full sweat guard, and the thumb break …

Bushnell TRS-25 Review

When I first started shooting 3-gun, I shot iron sights for quite a while, and I had a lot of fun doing that. I started looking into some small “budget friendly” red-dot sights to add to my rifle to try and speed up some of my times in matches, by allowing me to shoot rifle with both eyes open, like I shoot pistol. A friend had recently ordered a Primary Arms Micro Dot, so I …

Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe – Long Term Review

Since December 2010, I have been carrying either a Glock 19, or a Glock 26 in a Crossbreed Supertuck Deluxe every day. I purchased this holster after purchasing two knockoffs of the Crossbreed design. After using the knockoffs for a while, I determined that the design was great, but the execution of the knockoffs wasn’t as nice as the Crossbreed, so I went ahead and made the purchase. As with most things, I would have …

Federal Champion 115gr 9mm – Why we always inspect our ammo.

Shortly after I started taking shooting seriously a few years ago, I began searching for the cheapest ammo I could find. I started shooting this Federal Champion 115gr 9mm from Wal-Mart a lot, because I could get it for significantly cheaper than other brands. Over the years, I would estimate that I have fired at least 20,000 rounds of this particular ammo, and it has served me very well. It is rather soft shooting ammo, …
