GRNC: Dinner and a Movie 10/1/2013

As you certainly know, on October 1, 2013, Restaurant carry becomes the law of the land in North Carolina. On the same day, we will also be allowed to carry concealed in places that charge admission. GRNC has organized a “Dinner and a Movie” event in several cities across the state: GRNC Dinner and a Movie: Celebrate restaurant carry when it takes effect on October 1 by joining GRNC in Asheville, Hickory, Charlotte (Matthews), Greensboro, …

“Dress Around the Gun…”

I’m sick of hearing this. Telling a new concealed carrier that he needs to dress around the gun is terrible advise, and probably leads to more of them buying bigger pistols, and not carrying them as much later on.  As it is right now, my Springfield XDs 9mm is on its way back to Springfield for the recall, and I’m sitting in a restaurant eating lunch with a Glock 17 in my waistband, undershirt, and …

This is Embarrassing… (Appendix Carry Content)

As you surely know I’ve been experimenting with appendix carry for a few months now, and I’ve been pretty happy with this method of carry, as it seems to excel in most situations. This past weekend I found out that there’s one situation where appendix carry doesn’t excel… I was driving back to NC after visiting family in Northern Michigan, and after several hours on the road I needed to make a pit stop at …

IL Legislature Overrides CCW Veto!

And then there were none! Some months ago a federal judge ruled that Illinois’ complete ban on concealed carry was unconstitutional, and gave them 180 days to pass the law and setup a concealed carry program in the state. Following this process from start to finish has been interesting. First there was all kinds of drama about may issue or shall issue wording in the law, but finally it passed both houses with shall issue …

Springfield XDs 9mm Review – First Impressions

I just picked up a Springfield XDs 9mm from my favorite local gun shop (Carolina Gunrunners in North Raleigh). I’ve been waiting patiently for what seems like an eternity for this particular pistol to arrive, and finally today was the day! First Impressions: As you may know, Springfield ships their pistols in really nice plastic boxes, much nicer than those used by Glock and S&W. The inside of the box contained the following: The XDs …

IL House Passes Shall Issue Concealed Carry

Illinois is the last state in the union that does not have some form of concealed carry on the books. Recently a decision by the 7th circuit ruled that the state had 180 days to pass some a concealed carry law, or all of their current laws banning concealed carry would no longer be enforceable, and constitutional carry would become the law of the land. As expected, there are many elected officials in Illinois who …

Are You a Steward of the Second Amendment?

The below picture has been floating around Facebook for the last 24 hours or so. This, friends, is the type of thing we need to do. We need to be vocal to our representatives in congress, but we also need to be stewards of the second amendment. There are many people who are not opposed to gun ownership, who just don’t know enough to know what they don’t know. I’m not one to hide the …

Illinois Concealed Carry Ban Struck Down!

Today, a federal court Judge struck down Illinois ban on concealed carry, and ruled that the state has 180 days to draft legislation allowing concealed carry! This is big news, as Illinois was the last hold out, with all of the other 49 states allowing some sort of concealed carry. Fox News Article on Illinois Concealed Carry You may remember that it was just a couple years ago that Chicago’s handgun ban was struck down …

Victory for Gun Owners in NC Emergency Powers Gun Ban!

In NC, we have been unable to carry our legal firearms when a State of Emergency has been declared by the Governor. This was ridiculous, as most of the time, the SOE is declared for a very small part of the state, and the rest of us were left to suffer. It looks like this will change! Check out the link below. I haven’t read the entire press release yet, so I’ll keep this short, …

Concealed Carry

In this post, I want to cover some points on concealed carry. With 49 states now allowing some form of concealed carry for citizens, and more and more passing “shall issue” laws every year, concealed carry of firearms has swept the nation. Americans are no longer allowing themselves to be victimized, and are instead standing their ground, and defending themselves from those who wish to do them harm. I’ve been carrying a concealed handgun for …
