Call To Action: US Marine jailed in Mexico

Back in August, two Marines were heading on a surfing trip to Costa Rica. They purchased a motor home, and were going to make a road trip through Mexico to find good places to surf, and get their minds away from war. When crossing into Mexico, Jon Hammar notified US Customs of his .410 shotgun, filled out the necessary forms, then informed Mexican officials, presented the paperwork, and was promptly arrested. Since August Mr. Hammar has been held in a deplorable Mexican prison, with his life being threatened by Mexican cartels and corrupt officials.

There seems to be some confusion as to whether or not Hammar’s shotgun was legal or not. US Customs was alright with it, and apparently told him that it met the criteria for taking it with him into Mexico.

How many more US citizens must be jailed, raped, tortured, and murdered in foreign lands before we finally decide to start protecting our own? The entire situation sounds like a big misunderstanding to me, which should be able to be remedied with a little pressure on our elected officials.

Notify your Senators and Congressmen about this situation, and lets see if we can put some heat on them to take action.

Drop them an email. Let them know that you are a citizen, and you are concerned about Mr. Hammar’s well being. Ask them to do whatever they can to draw attention to the situation, and get Mr. Hammar back home.
