Local Media Fear Mongering

In the video below, ABC11 does a story about counterfeit gun “parts” that were part of a raid conducted by federal authorities in Cary, NC.
Notice how they interview neighbors, the classic “my children play on that street” line, etc.

The fact of the matter is that these counterfeit parts were most likely knockoff molded buttstocks, AimPoint, and EOtech copies, foregrips, etc. Certainly it’s a crime to sell them as the real deal, but it’s not scary or dangerous in the least.

It’s no different than the guy selling Rolex knockoffs on a street corner, yet the local media wastes no time coming up with a news piece depicting “assault rifle” parts as scary.

  1. its not the Govt, they are doing their job to protect the ip rights of US mfg. Keeping US jobs and companies safe from an infringing black market. These junk products are sold by gun show gypsies for a profit to young soldiers who are conned into buying this junk then putting their lives on the line with it!! Why? because it says Trijicon, Eotech, ARMS!! Now, we don”t want DHS to do their job and pick on gun parts, but we love to complain about US Economy problems and then turn a blind eye to supporting a red Chinese black market?? Reality check here guys… Customs inspects inbound shipments from China….. CBP Agents are trained to look for misclassified commodities and goods that may violate IP Laws.. Would you like your daughter taking knockoff prescription drugs for a chronic condition?
. BTW… why did it get reported??? reporters chase warrants.. when they see gun parts they think they are going to get a Pulitzer Prize. none of the articles were anti gun… just anti counterfeit.
A fake Eotech will emit a frontal light source that allows the enemy to see you first, but a fake Gucci Purse will not get you killed in a battle unless you are in a gay bar!! Google up counterfeit purses… NC had a bust on hotel event sales of fake purses in 2008. more publicity than this gun paranoia everyone is making this out to be.

    • Hey George, I totally agree that there should be enforcement on counterfeit products. My concern is how the media portrayed this, as something scary or evil, when its really not.
