This is some pretty good news. You may have heard last week about the citizen in NY who had a legally possessed handgun who was arrested for having 9 rounds in the magazine, which, is a pretty easy mistake to make. Thankfully, the Columbia County District Attorney has decided that he will not prosecute the subject for the “crime”.
I’m sitting here writing this, with a Glock 19 on my hip that has 16 rounds in it. In my pocket is another magazine with 15 rounds in it. On the bookshelf there are several 30 round AR-15 magazines filled to capacity, and I’m not breaking any laws. This entire NY SAFE act is so ridiculous. Everyone, on both sides of the aisle knows that it isn’t about keeping anyone safe, it’s only about prosecuting, and demonizing legal gun owners in order to discourage further gun ownership in the state.
Huge props to the DA who has decided not to prosecute this citizen who, by everything I can find online, is a law abiding citizen who made a mistake that isn’t illegal in free America. Hopefully as more law abiding citizens fall victim to the NY SAFE Act, more District Attorneys will refuse to enforce the law.
