Anti-gun Fight Brewing in Morrisville

Morrisville Mayor Jackie Holcombe, member of Mayors Against Illegal Guns, is looking for a loophole in HB937 to let her continue to ban concealed carry in Morrisville parks.

“Accidents happen, and families know they happen. And they would like for us to lessen the risk so that their children can play safely on playgrounds,” Holcombe said.

Holcombe has asked Morrisville staff for a review.

“I think that’s what’s appropriate is if there’s a compromise here to look for it, because families are concerned. There’s no doubt about it,” Holcombe said.

Luckily for us, she has a challenger. Town Council member and mayoral contender Mark Stohlman disagrees.

“These are law-abiding citizens. They have a valid concealed permit. I think everyone has the right to be in parks,” Stohlman said.

Awesome.

Also of note, and omitted from the article, was their attempt at “woman on the street” interviewing. Interviewed was Guadaloupe Martinez, a mom that takes her kid to a Morrisville park “almost every day”:

Martinez: “And I love it because it’s safe, it’s close, and I feel comfortable with the floor and everything. I think it’s safe.
Interviewer: [Unintelligible, but asking about the effects of the new law] Martinez: Now? [Shrugging] I’m not sure. [Laugh]

Hardly the portrait of an alarmed citizenry.

We’ll be talking about this more as election day comes closer, but for now, let’s start getting the word out. Hit the link, watch the video, and tell your friends in Morrisville that this election day is an election about guns.
