Yesterday was Christmas, and I’m sure many of you have boxes from gifts and all sorts of other trash generated from the big day that you want to get out of the house. I get that, but I beg you to take a couple minutes with a utility knife and cut the boxes up into small enough pieces that you can get them out of sight.
As I was walking the dog tonight I saw a neighbor already has the box from his new 60″ TV sitting out by the road where it’ll remain until trash day next Tuesday I’m sure.
As it sits there, it’s just a giant billboard letting every person who drives by with bad intentions that there’s a big, new, expensive item I side that they can come and take whenever they please.
Don’t out out billboards for crooks, cut up your boxes.
I was going to make a post on the Facebook page earlier today about this very topic. Even if you’re not security minded (aka wrong), 10 minutes with a knife or box cutter is worth skipping the angry Clark Griswold moment when you’re trying to force awkwardly shaped boxes into square or round trash cans.
Also worth the time to avoid getting your door kicked in and all your junk stolen. I’m amazed how many people don’t give it a second thought.
I save the boxes until the return window closes in case of a problem and the item must be returned, or until the warranty expires, same reason. Then I cut them up into pieces, cover them with duct tape for waterproofing, and tape paper targets on them.
Yes, they make good target backers.
I cut them up and use them under my 1979 International Scout II because she like to leak oil (or mark her turf, depending on how you look at it)
You’re a 4×4 guy? My dad has an old 53′ CJ-2A that we used to tool around all over the place in Northern Michigan in.
