2012 IDPA Nationals – The Range, Oxford, NC

Thursday morning I headed up to the 2012 IDPA Nationals at The Range in Oxford, NC. I’m not shooting the match, but I figured with it being right in my backyard, at a range that I shoot at frequently, I may as well head on up to see the big dogs do what they do. The stages looked great. Many times I’ve heard shooters say that the stages at the big majors like this aren’t …

New Glock Advertisement.

This video has been making the rounds on most of the gun-blogs today. Lots of criticism, for one reason or another. Personally, I think it is great to see a firearm company not only advertising their product in the main stream, but also portraying the shooting sports in a good light.

Is it Cheating?

Just a not-so-hypothetical question about cheating at IDPA matches… If someone is given advanced knowledge of the stages for a match, or is able to shoot the exact stages before the actual match, is that cheating? I’m not talking about the Match Director shooting the stage to get the angles setup correctly, I’m talking about someone being allowed to practice the stages days or even weeks before the actual match. In IDPA, individual walkthroughs are …

H2O Fowl Farms IDPA 8/11/2012

On Saturday I headed down to H2O Fowl Farms for their monthly IDPA match. This match consisted of 6 stages as usual with one blind stage. As usual, I was shooting my S&W M&P9 Pro. One of the things that I really like about this match is the early start time. Registration opens at 8am, and shooting starts right at 9am. This allows us to shoot 6 stages, and head off for lunch somewhere, and …

Cheating in Club Matches?

I’ve never had an RO complete an equipment check on my pistol, holster, or other gear during a club match. Not once. Ever. At club matches it is a pretty laid back atmosphere most of the year, with new shooters and veterans working on their game. When summer rolls around, and the IDPA Carolina Cup, East Coast Championship, USPSA NC State Championship start getting closer, more shooters begin to step up their game, and get …

PDHSC IDPA 7/28/2012

Last night I had the opportunity to go to Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center in Raleigh, NC for their monthly IDPA match. I’ve been shooting club matches in the triangle area for almost 3 years, but for some reason, I had never made it to this match before yesterday. I enjoyed the match, and tried to push myself. I thought I was shooting well, however in reviewing the video of all of the stages, …
