DC on the Heels of California with Microstamping

Washington DC is the only place in the US where microstamping is required other than California. As I reported yesterday, both Ruger and Smith & Wesson are allowing many of their firearms to fall off of the “not unsafe” handgun list in California. It appears that Washington DC, who also passed a microstamping law which was set to go into effect on January 1, decided to postpone the microstamping requirement for another two years. According …

Colion Noir Nearly Kills Bob Beckel

Colion Noir, an NRA commentator, best known for his well thought out YouTube videos got Fox New’s Bob Beckel so worked up his head nearly exploded. Noir did this video in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. day: (Link for those using a reader or email) Fox New’s ‘The Five’ commented on the video, and as expected the resident liberal on the show, Bob Beckel flips out over it. Here’s a link to the clip …

Concerted Activity from Gunmakers?

On Sunday Ben and I talked about how Ruger is ceasing to sell all semi-automatic handguns in California due to their microstamping law (that as far as we can tell still isn’t in effect). The CEO of Ruger had the following to say: Earlier today news broke that Smith & Wesson will be allowing their M&P handguns to be removed from the California approved handgun list in the next 60 days. This hasn’t been confirmed …

Shooting a terrible IDPA stage in one easy step

I shot an awful stage today. In IDPA terms, I was down 26 with two failures to neutralize. That means, of the six targets, I totally missed one and only got edge hits on another. I got more points down on this one stage than the other five combined. And all the targets I whiffed on were less than two paces away. Here’s why. I ascribe to the “call the shot” school of practical shooting. …

ABC News Piece on Gun Related YouTube Channels

Surprisingly positive, and well done piece on some of the bigger gun related YouTube channels. Interesting to see old media doing an article on new media, and doing it in a positive light. I’ve learned two things about the establishment media over the past couple of years: Old media hates the new media. Establishment media hates guns. Well it seems that either we are making inroads with the old media or this article slipped under …

The Great Maryland CCW Fishing Expedition

Right after Christmas John Filippidis, a Florida resident, with a Florida concealed carry permit was traveling back to Florida from New Jersey with his family. As he passed into Maryland he was tailed, and finally pulled over by a Maryland Port Authority police officer, who then demanded to see his gun. Filippidis didn’t bring his gun, because as a law abiding gun owner he knew that he couldn’t carry it in hostile New Jersey and …

Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014

The Library of Congress finally got the full text of the bill up so we can read it. Ben and I were concerned about a backdoor in the bill, and we talked about that on Episode 64 of the podcast, but after reading the full text, it’s a pretty straight forward, one page, vanilla bill. We definitely need to keep a close eye on it, as it would be very easy to slip in a …

“You’re Not Tactical Enough”

I’m somewhat regularly accused of “not being tactical enough”, and I guess to someone dropping by the website expecting to see pictures and videos of me playing tactical dress up, maybe I’m not “tactical enough”. I think of the word “tactical”  with a very specific definition, and I didn’t name this blog Triangle Tactical because its cool to have a word followed by “tactical” as the name for a business or blog or whatever. The …

No Remington R51 Pistols at SHOT Media Day?

Rumor is that big green didn’t bring any Remington R51 pistols to Media Day on the Range at SHOT show yesterday (It’s a rumor, because I’m not at SHOT show). The R51 came it of nowhere a week or so ago, and has been one of the most talked about guns being released this year, overshadowing the Glock 42. Remington had an opportunity to put the pistol in the hands of tons of bloggers, podcasters, …
