Sucks. Yeaup, that’s a blister from the bottom of the trigger guard on my middle finger. I’ve heard people call this “Glock finger”, but I’ve had it happen with any pistol I’ve trained with seriously. Glock, M&P, whatever, it doesn’t matter. I guess I need to work on building up a better callous there…

(Video link for Email/Rss Readers) I guess this is a way to keep people from doing those IDPA “baby steps” that Ben talked about last week. I’d like to see this in an IDPA match, although I think the match directors would be concerned about someone missing a step, and falling on the treadmill with a gun in their hand. Who’s got an old treadmill?

Ben hasn’t posted this yet, so I figured I’d go ahead and post it for him. He made a last minute switch from his M&P Pro 9mm to his Glock 17 before the match, and it paid off for him with a match bump from Expert to Master! Not only did he do a great job at the match, but he also spent a lot of time putting together the video from the match, and …

And I think he’s right. I’ve shot with Chad a couple of times, and in addition to being a hell of a shooter and a good dude, he’s starting a series of YouTube videos on getting into competitive shooting. Check out the first two, and go subscribe to his channel: (1st YouTube link for Email/RSS Readers) (2nd YouTube link for Email/RSS Readers)

On Sunday I had the opportunity to go shoot IDPA at The Range in Oxford, NC. I’m not a huge IDPA shooter these days, but I take it for what it is, and go shoot to have a good time. I had the new Glock 34 riding in the brand new (literally picked it up 20 minutes before the match started) D&D holster, shooting my reloads. I took a procedural penalty on the first stage …

After talking about it for a number of years I finally picked up a Glock 34 to shoot in competition. I moved away from Glocks temporarily because I was having slide bite issues, and the new beavertail backstraps hadn’t been released yet for the Gen4 pistols. Now they are, and I’m back. I’m not a “Glock guy” (see Episode 24 of the podcast) but I have found that I prefer them over the M&P’s I’ve …

I’m apparently out of the loop a little bit, so this information is a little out of date, but I still wanted to get this out. The North Carolina Rifle & Pistol Association is hosting some NC state shooting games. In May they have already had a Cowboy Action and IDPA match, and over the next month or so they will be having High Power, USPSA, 2-Gun Rimfire, Small Bore, Bullseye Pistol, and Vintage Military …

If I told you that later this year there was going to be a match that consisted of sample stages from all of the different shooting sports in a low-stress, fun environment, would you come out and try your hand at competitive shooting? Details are still a little slim, but John from ZSA is planning a match for one day this fall to have Steel Challenge, USPSA, ZSA, and possibly IDPA stages setup so that …

On Saturday I shot USPSA at Sir Walter Gun Club with about 130 other gun nuts. This was just a regular monthly match at Sir Walter, nothing particularly special about it, other than the beautiful weather. While we were shooting the match at Sir Walter here in NC, the USPSA Singlestack and Revolver Nationals were taking place in Barry, IL, as well as a 3-Gun Nation Pro Series event in Tulsa, OK. The big story …

Ben shot a quick video about the basics of dry fire. After we did Episode 66 of the podcast, we received even more questions about what constructive dry fire actually looks like. This will be the first in a series of videos Ben is doing about dry fire. Notice that he isn’t just pulling the trigger on the first shot and re-cocking the hammer for the next. He’s dropping the hammer, and then you can …
