Ben and I have been discussing the XD Mod.2 on and off since it’s announcement from Springfield Armory last week. The common theme that we’ve discussed is that all of the changes that Sprinfield made to the pistol appear to be positive, with exception to all the text printed all over it, especially the GRIP ZONE text on the grip. There’s a long running joke in the gun community about all the text that Ruger …

I generally carry 9 round extended magazine as a backup for my Springfield Armory XDs 9mm. When I carried a S&W Shield, I carried the 8 round magazine as a backup, and when I carried a Glock 19, I kept a 17 round Glock 17 magazine as a backup. The obvious thing here is that the extended magazines stick out of the grip of the pistol a bit more than the standard magazines, and in …

Guns America is reporting that the trigger on their upgraded XDs is about 8oz heavier than the previous trigger. Apparently their shooters couldn’t feel the difference, but they were able to measure it with a gauge. I’m not getting my hopes up, but I’m getting my hopes up.

Now I’m quite unhappy. We are pleased to announce that the process of upgrading XD-S™ pistols has begun, and we will start shipping TODAY on a first-received/first-upgraded basis. In our last update, we reported that upgraded pistols would start shipping sometime next week. But our team has been working around the clock and we are thrilled to start shipping today. We have greatly increased our staff to get upgraded pistols back to customers quickly, and …

Springfield just updated the SpringfieldRecall.com website with new information. It appears that their testing is complete, and they will begin repairing pistols in the coming weeks. We’re getting a free extended magazine for our troubles. (I’d prefer a standard magazine, as they have been unobtainable, but oh well…) We are pleased to announce that our testing was successful and is complete. Looking at the latest update that Springfield Armory posted on the Springfield Recall website, they announced that they are still testing possible fixes for the XDs pistols, and that they will begin repairing them once they come up with a fix. We originally estimated a 30-day turn-around time, but it has unfortunately taken longer to develop and identify an upgrade solution. Please know that we are continuing to test potential upgrade solutions at this time …

It looks like Springfield accepted my XDs today for the recall. Now I wait… I mentioned on Episode 45 that I was going to look at a Bersa BP9cc as a short term alternative to the XDs 9mm. It’s got a lot of things going against it, but it’s fairly inexpensive, and Carolina Gunrunners always seems to have them in stock. I could do without the magazine disconnect, but the real concern I have is …

Has anybody been able to find anything that explains exactly what parts are being replaced inside the XDs pistols? I’ve heard that the grip safety is being replaced, and that the new one has a roll pin in it, and that’s about it. I’ve spent a couple hours digging through forum threads and doing Google searches, and I still don’t understand exactly what is happening inside the pistol that is causing it to double fire, …

If you have been reading Triangle Tactical for any length of time, you probably know that I’m very particular when it comes to pistols for concealed carry. Since I began carrying several years ago, all I’ve wanted was a small, singlestack, 9mm pistol, with no external safety, and a decent trigger. Smith & Wesson came close with the Shield, but the itty bitty safety is just too small for me. There are a lot of …
