Johnston County, NC removes shooting ban from proposed noise ordinance.

Last month news came out of Johnston County, NC that they were planning to instate a new noise ordinance for the county that would effectively make any shooting, other than hunting and self defense illegal. This riles the feathers of many residents, and even non-residents, and the community fought back.

A petition was started, as well as a Facebook page (which gained nearly 2,000 ‘likes’ in just a couple weeks). The wording from the petition is as follows:

Johnston County Commissioners silently voted to ban shooting on private property!
On Monday, August 6th, the Johnston County Board of Commissioners silently adopted over-reaching new noise ordinances designed to, among other things, silence virtually all gunfire within the County. The only exemptions allowed for under the new proposals are for hunting, self-defense, and the odd circumstances “pursuant to lawful directions of law-enforcement officers”. With only these exemptions in place, virtually all other forms of gunfire could subject you to a Class III misdemeanor charge under the new laws!

Grass Roots North Carolina released two alerts on their email alert system. You can find the alerts here, and here.

Word is that the final meeting took place tonight, and the firearm wording was stricken from the legislation! I’m also hearing that more than 200 people showed up to the meeting to support their rights.

If anyone was at the meeting, and could elaborate on how things went down, I would be interested in hearing about it.

I apologize for not promoting this cause earlier. No excuses.
