Why you should carry a gun at home:

The Blaze is reporting a video of a New Jersey mom who was brutally beat by a scumbag thug after he broke into her home and the entire incident was caught on video.

WARNING: This video is graphic, and I wouldn’t recommend watching it if you can’t stomach these sorts of things.

What I find to be scariest about this incident is that this guy didn’t break into her home demanding money, or drugs, or her XBOX 360. This miscreant broke in just to act out his sick fantasy on this woman.

Thankfully she, and her children are alive to tell their story, but the scumbag criminal is still on the loose, and clearly from the video if this guy wanted to do more to hurt her or her kids, she would have been helpless to stop him. They noted that the Police have the video, and are actively looking for the subject. That’s all fine and good, but it doesn’t do anything for this woman. All the video in the world doesn’t help in this situation, because the event already took place. Having video of an event is great after the fact, but there isn’t a single criminal out there that is scared out of committing a crime because of the presence of a camera.

This would have been a much better story if the headline had read “Caught on Nanny Cam: New Jersey Mother Drills Scumbag Home Invader with 6 Rounds of 9mm While Protecting Her Children”.

I’m not putting any blame on the poor woman in this story, but I seriously hope that she will be ready should something like this happen again. There’s a lesson here for the rest of us, especially those who live in free America where we are allowed to carry, and that lesson is to carry at home.

I’m pretty good about leaving my gun on when I get home from somewhere, but there are definitely times when I take it off too. I don’t have kids, so leaving a handgun on the coffee table isn’t a big deal if I’m in the area, but I can understand why someone with kids wouldn’t want to do that, but there are plenty of options for small pistols, and different types of holsters to make carrying wherever you are easy to do.

Evaluate your situation.

If someone broke into your home right now intent on doing you, your significant other, or your children harm, would you be able to get to the tools needed to defend yourself quick enough? Be honest with yourself.

  1. I leave mine on almost constantly. Feel a little naked without it. It’s so small, I forget it’s there.
