When I got home from work this afternoon I had a letter waiting for me in the mailbox from the Wake County Sheriffs Department. It was a small piece of card stock folded in half and sealed with tape.
When I opened it, this was written on the inside:
You’re probably saying “Okay Luke, they sent you a letter, but they are legally required to notify you that your permit is about to expire, so who cares?”, and you aren’t wrong, but if Sheriff Harrison was as shady and underhanded as the Sheriffs in some other counties, he could have had his people make a phone call 45 days out to notify me that my permit is about to expire, instead of the letter 4 months before my permit expires so I can get my renewal in with plenty of time.
Maybe its not a big deal, but I appreciated it.
When I lived in Wake County and got my first CHP I seem to remember the Sheriff at the time had a standing policy that as long as he was Sheriff, the permit was valid. ie. no need to renew.
Or did I just make that up? My memory isn’t what it used to be.
Was his name Baker? Would have been maybe 10 years ago.
