I just came across this on Facebook, and I couldn’t be happier to live in Knightdale, NC. I’ve heard mention of the “Citizens Academy” that KPD puts on in the past, but I’m honestly not all that well read on it.
I’m happy to call Knightdale home, very cool.
Nice!
My only minor issue is the somewhat recent designation of non-cops as “citizens”, as if cops were military. Not to be an Orwellian but that kind of terminology separates the common folks from the enforcers, and blurs the lines between military and police.
I noticed it too, but I’ll let it slide since they’re teaching citizens to shoot high capacity assault rifles.
You’re confusing “citizen” with “civilian”. Calling unsworn members of the public “citizens” is entirely correct. Calling them “civilians” in contrast to police would imply the police are military.
However, semantic drift of the term “civilian” has been occurring for years now. If I had to guess, since about the first LAPD SWAT team.
