Are “Double Strike Capable” Pistols a Scam?

It seems that more and more I’m seeing concealed carry type pistols being marketed as “double strike capable”, or having the ability to strike the same cardridge a second time with just another pull of the trigger. My question is, is this whole double strike capable thing just a marketing gimmick for traditional double action pistols that have always had this capability, or is double strike capability something that is a viable option for a …

“Please don’t point a gun at my brother’s head.”

This past weekend, Sean from NCGunBlog.com walked away from a training class because of an unsafe instructor who repeatedly pointed pistols at the students, and his brother head. Head over to NCGunBlog.com and read Sean’s post about it. I think there is something we can all learn from this, if you see someone being unsafe, say something about it, and if they don’t listen, get away from them. I don’t care who the person is, …

Alexander County, NC is Moving to Online PPP’s

This is pretty cool.  It will save citizens from having to make multiple trips to the sheriff’s office to buy more permits. While I wish the General Assembly would eliminate the Pistol Purchase Permit Jim Crow law all together, it is nice to see a Sheriff making it easier for the citizens that he works for. From the Alexander County Sheriffs Dept: Sheriff Chris Bowman has announced that he intends to implement a new online …

If you live in California, it’s time to leave.

The California State Senate voted today to pass more gun control. 8 bills in total,  all of which closing “loopholes” in the current laws. Most notably, this package of bills creates a registry for ammo purchasers, and requires background checks to buy ammo. Democrat Kevin De Leon’s SB53, which would require background checks and licensing for all ammunition purchases, and store information about who’s buying bullets in a state database. This package of bills also …

Quail Ridge Books Town Hall Meeting on “Gun Violence”

This evening I had the opportunity to meet up with Sean from NCGunBlog.com, and several members from Carolina Shooters Club, and NCGunowners.com for this Town Hall Meeting on “Gun Violence in America”. The meeting featured a panel of three presenters, Dr. Meymandi (a psychiatrist who has studied gun violence), Congressman David Price (rabid anti-gun politician), and David Crabtree (from WRAL, not really sure why he was on the panel…) The meeting went like this: Crabtree: …

IL House Passes Shall Issue Concealed Carry

Illinois is the last state in the union that does not have some form of concealed carry on the books. Recently a decision by the 7th circuit ruled that the state had 180 days to pass some a concealed carry law, or all of their current laws banning concealed carry would no longer be enforceable, and constitutional carry would become the law of the land. As expected, there are many elected officials in Illinois who …

Memorial Day

Many years ago, I used to work for the city where I grew up. We did everything from mowing grass, to digging graves at the cemetery.  I was asked to work in the office at the cemetery on Memorial Day for a couple of years, and my only job on those days was to sit in the office, and help direct families to the sites where their loved ones were buried. Often times the families, …

DA Will Not Prosecute in NY SAFE Act Infraction

This is some pretty good news. You may have heard last week about the citizen in NY who had a legally possessed handgun who was arrested for having 9 rounds in the magazine, which, is a pretty easy mistake to make. Thankfully, the Columbia County District Attorney has decided that he will not prosecute the subject for the “crime”. I’m sitting here writing this, with a Glock 19 on my hip that has 16 rounds …

Does the Type of Lube You Use Matter?

I’m beginning to wonder if I’m the only person who doesn’t care what I use to lube my firearms. I’ve been known to use everything from Tri-Flow (for bicycle chains), to 80W-90 gear oil, to motor oil, to whatever else I can get my hands on that is wet and slippery. I just don’t care. There are some lubes out there that are crazy expensive, and I’ve got to wonder, are they worth it? I …

First Responders

I had a conversation with a co-worker yesterday while watching the media coverage of the devastation left from the OK tornado. He could hardly sit still watching it, and I’m pretty sure if someone would have told him there was a plane waiting to take him to Oklahoma, he would have jumped in without hesitation. He told me about how some people that he knows from his other job put in for vacation time after …
