S&W M&P9 Pro Trigger Job

Yesterday I posted about my first impressions of the Smith & Wesson M&P9 Pro, and the majority of my discontent with the pistol was with the awful gritty trigger. Sure, I could throw an Apex Tactical DCAEK kit in the pistol, and the trigger would improve considerably, however, I don’t feel that I should need to throw a $100 trigger kit into a brand new pistol in order for it to have a serviceable trigger. …

S&W M&P9 Pro – First impression

This past Friday I picked up a Smith & Wesson M&P9 Pro to use as my primary competition pistol. I have been shooting Glock pistols for around 2 years and recently I’ve become interested in this particular model. I headed to Carolina Gunrunners in North Raleigh and picked it up, and decided to give it a whirl. Keep in mind that I am a Glock fanboy, so while I am going to try be as …

WRAL news puts CCW holders on a searchable database.

I was made aware of this article this morning via Carolina Shooters Club. Basically, WRAL news published an article about concealed carry, and then they added at the bottom of the article a search box that allows one to search the database of concealed carry permit holders in NC by address. Sure, the names of permit holders are public record, but getting ahold of these records, and adding them to a publicly searchable database is …

“Gunshow Loophole” Rant.

Anybody ever heard the media talk about the “gunshow loophole” when pushing a gun control agenda? I’m here to tell you that there is no such thing as a gunshow loophole. When one goes to a gunshow, and buys a firearm from a federally licensed dealer, he must pass the same instant background check that he would have to pass if he walked into a regular gun store. This is the case in all 50 …

DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster Review

About two years ago, I was shopping for a pocket holster for my Kel-tec PF-9, and after trying several options, I settled on the DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. The Nemesis is a fabric holster that is coated with a rubbery material that holds the holster into your pocket when the pistol is drawn. Being that the holster is stiff fabric, it also works to disguise the outline of the pistol in your pocket. When shopping …

Ameriglo GL-405PRA

In my quest for the perfect defensive/competition pistol sights, I recently came across the Ameriglo GL-405PRA rear sight. I’ve been running the Ameriglo GL-433 sights for about a year now, and I really like them, but I’ve been intrigued with U-notch rear sights for some time, as the few times I’ve used them, I felt that they were very fast. I contacted Ameriglo, about this, and they were kind enough to send me a GL-405PRA …

Trace Armory Group/Carolina Shooters Club Gunfighter Class AAR

On Saturday, June 16th, 2012, I participated in the Trace Armory Group/Carolina Shooters Club Gunfighter class. This was a combination of training with some basic drills, as well as a meet and greet for members of the Carolina Shooters Club forum. John Boyette was the primary instructor for the class, with Scott McClure teaching the other squad. I started on McClure’s squad first thing in the morning, were we worked on handgun skills then switched …
