In case you missed it in Episode 18 of the Triangle Tactical Podcast, H2O Fowl Farms in Dunn, NC, along with Allen from Tarheel Targets will be hosting a BUG (Back Up Gun) match on March 23rd (9am registration, match starts at 10). This match is the ‘perfect storm’ for new shooters. You don’t need to worry about having a holster, or magazine pouches, or really any other gear for this match.
All you need is this:
- Safety conscious attitude
- Pistol (preferably with a barrel less than 3.5″, but shoot what you have!)
- $15
- 60 rounds of ammo for the pistol
- A bag, case, or holster to put the pistol in
And that’s it.
Being that this will be a BUG match, you don’t need to worry about drawing the pistol from your holster, instead, there will be alternative starting positions. The pistol may be on a table, or in box, or maybe even in your hands, but no holster will be required.
There will be 6 stages, each having 2 strings. Each string will consist of 5 rounds, so you have a total of 60rds for the entire match.
You will shoot the first string, and then be given time to reload, and then you can shoot the second string. After that, you will move to the next stage and do it again.
To give you an idea what the match will be like, here’s some video from the last BUG sidematch held at H2O Fowl Farms:
So, if you are within driving distance of Dunn, NC, and you want to get your feet wet in competitive shooting, this match is for you.
If you have any questions, please post in the comments below, and I’ll get them answered for you!
Man, I was supposed to do a ZSA match that day but this looks like fun. Looks like a good place to run my P938 a bit!
Cool, hope to see you there!
All I have is a rimfire pistol (Ruger Mark III 22/45) as well as my HD shotgun. Are there matches around the Triangle I can join?
Yessir, check out the Ruger Rimfire matches at Caswell Ranch. I believe any of the ZSA Pistol matches will let you shoot rimfire as well.
Thanks! Looks like the next one is this weekend at Caswell Ranch.
Will not make it but will gear up for the next one!
I also checked out ZSA which seems more exciting, but get the feeling a .22 is not adequate for it.
.22lr does just fine. It won’t knock over steel targets, but I wouldn’t let that stop you from getting out and trying a few matches. If you like it you can always buy more gear later. I’ve shot ZSA with a little girl and her airsoft pistol, and she had a blast.
