Open Carry

I’ve been pretty outspoken in the past about open carry. My stance has always been that yes, it should be legal, but it’s not for me. I don’t want the added attention from the general public, or  law enforcement. Until Saturday, I’d never done it outside of a match.

I’d been watching the Triangle Open Carry Meetup group for a while, waiting for an event that worked with my schedule. Finally Saturday I was able to make it to their meetup at McCalls in Clayton, NC.

We ate bbq and hush puppies (put the diet on hold for a day…) and talked for a couple hours. After we left the restaurant we stood out front and talked a little longer. Customers were walking in right past us, and I made it a point to watch their eyes as they went by.

I don’t think anybody, not a single person noticed that there was a group of people standing right next to them with guns on their hips.

I’m going to continue to carry concealed, but it was nice to see that the general public doesn’t freak out and lose their minds when they see a pistol.

  1. Well I think it just depends on timing once you do it enough times you’ll see some people react in weird ways but for the most part people don’t go bonkers.

  2. I believe the location had something to do with the nonchalance of the customers. Clayton is still a rural community.I dare say the same reaction would have been seen in Cary or North Raleigh.

    • Very possible. I know they have some other events coming up in North Raleigh that I’ll try to attend. It will definitely be interesting to see if there’s a difference in reaction.
