Inforce APL Shenanigans

I’ve been watching this whole situation play out on YouTube and Instagram for a couple days. Apparently if you put your weak hand index finger in the wrong place on the Inforce APL light when firing you can make it fly off the pistol when it recoils:

The folks at Inforce are saying that the HighCapacityTV folks are using it incorrectly, and shows a different way of activating and using the light to keep it from flying off:

What say you?

  1. I have thought about this for a while now.

One could argue that the mounting system should be more robust to prevent the light from detaching from a gun that is being manipulated in the manner shown by HCTV or by an inexperienced shooter.

On the other hand, I don’t shoot my handguns that way. And, I don’t know anyone that does.

So, I am leaning towards the side of the Inforce team.

  2. I’ve got mixed feelings on the issue. The Inforce rep says he wants to have a dialogue like adults, but sounds like a childish dick in his response video. If it comes down to fine motor control, you’re going to lose that in a high stress situation. But they say the same thing about the SERPA holsters and I don’t have a problem using those, so there lies my mixed feelings. I guess in the end, it comes down to knowing your equipment and training regularly with that equipment.

  3. The ‘you’re using it wrong’ defense is so lame.

Gee.. ok thanks. I’ll find the one that I know how to use right.

    • My thoughts exactly. I do think I’ll make a range trip with my Streamlight and try to pop it off under recoil. I’m confident that it will stay put, even if I do it wrong…

  4. Surefire X300 will dig a hole in my thumb before it pops off.

Thumb pressure forward for momentary on is how if been taught.

Light on -> shoot -> light off -> move -> repeat.
