WCFETC Action Matches Cancelled

I’m a sad panda this morning. sad panda

Last night those of us who shoot the WCFETC Action matches received word that the matches are cancelled going forward. I’m sorry to hear it, as these Monday night shooting matches were some of my favorite shooting matches around. I want to publicly thank Joel Pendergraft for running the matches over the past few years. I know he put in a lot of work and did it because he loves the shooting sports.

The Action matches were responsible for getting many new shooters into the shooting sports. They were one of the best matches around for new shooters because of the “run what ya brung” fun environment.

I learned a lot of things at these matches:

  • 7.62×39 AK-47’s will chamber and fire .223 ammo, but won’t extract the split casing
  • 10/22’s always seem to malfunction during rifle matches
  • Shooting a rifle with a muzzle brake on it through a barrel will blow off your ear muffs
  • Shooting the BS with friends on the range is as much fun as shooting the guns

We shot a lot of different types of matches, regular action pistol, back up gun (BUG), action rifle, low light, and more. After the new Holly Springs shopping center opened up around the corner from the range a bunch of us would always head over to a Mexican restaurant for a beer and more BSing. We always had a good time, and I’m going to miss it.

Stay in touch friends! If you only shot these matches, check out the shooting sports calendar and try some others, we have a LOT of places to shoot in the area.

  1. And why where they cancelled ?

  2. The previous organizer had to step down due to other commitments, and the range has exacting requirements on who can take over. Hopefully we’ll find someone soon.

  3. Thanks for the clarification !
