Sheriff Harrison: Home Invasions, Thefts from Vehicles on the Rise

WRAL published a piece with Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison regarding the rise of home invasions, and thefts from vehicles in southern and eastern Wake county It appears that most of the incidents are happening when people leave their vehicles or homes unlocked and the criminals are taking advantage of this. What Can You Do? Lock your car, and hide your junk. Seriously. If you leave something valuable in your car (anything they can be …

Austin, TX Police Officer Shoots Gunman from 100 yards, With a Pistol, While Holding Reins to Horses

From the Fort Worth Police Officers Association Facebook Page: 312 feet. 104 yards. One shot. Probably one handed, while holding onto two 1000 pound animals. Lucky shot? Maybe, but it’s quite impressive. When was the last time you shot your pistol past 25 yards? I’ve been getting out to about 40 yards pretty regularly, but I don’t have a range that will get me out to 100 yards with a pistol, unfortunately. If you have …

Film Study: Wake Action Pistol match

Last night was the second Wake Action Pistol match for November and so it was the second time we were shooting these stages. It was a chilly night on the range and we had to spend about half an hour after the safety brief figuring out what went wrong with Practiscore, the match scoring software we were using. Once all the issues were solved, I was in gear to get the match rolling, and I …

Breaking: USPSA Website Hacked

I just heard about this on Doodie Project, and it’s been making the rounds on the competition shooting circles today. Basically, the way I understand it, is that USPSA was not storing account names and passwords in a encrypted format, so when their website was hacked the hackers were able to access email addresses and account passwords for USPSA website accounts. If you use unique passwords for every different website this probably isn’t a  big …

The XD Mod.2 is Surprisingly Good Looking… Without all the Text

Ben and I have been discussing the XD Mod.2 on and off since it’s announcement from Springfield Armory last week. The common theme that we’ve discussed is that all of the changes that Sprinfield made to the pistol appear to be positive, with exception to all the text printed all over it, especially the GRIP ZONE text on the grip. There’s a long running joke in the gun community about all the text that Ruger …

Is Ruger Embracing Smart Guns?

From this news piece, it seems that may be the case, or maybe not. It could be that the folks at Ruger smiled and nodded when approached by these folks, without having any intention of acting on the information, or it could be just as insidious as it sounds. I need a whole lot more than just one sentence from a NY news station before I can pass judgement. I’ll be keeping an eye on …

I Like Where Taurus is Going with the Curve Pistol

Yesterday the internet went crazy over the Taurus Curve pistol, mostly with bloggers bashing it. A lot of the criticism was warranted, but the Curve has some things going for it. The Taurus Curve is a new .380ACP pistol that quite literally is curved to fit your body (if you’re right handed, sorry leftys). I couldn’t care less about this feature, but it seems that the Curve has a couple other things going for it: …

Cover Six Tactical out of Clayton, NC is Good to Go

A few nights ago I was cruising my internet sources checking the price of bullets, powder, and primers online. I came across a link to an online store called Cover Six Tactical. Turns out they are just down the way from me in Clayton, NC and they had more pistol powder listed in stock on their website than I’ve seen since I started reloading earlier this year. I was down to about 1.5lbs of powder, …
