Georgia Quietly Gains Campus Carry

Several weeks back while working on show prep for a podcast episode Ben and I were going line by line through the Georgia “guns everywhere” bill. We had heard that the bill included campus carry, the ability for teachers to carry, and a bunch of other stuff. Unfortunately after going through the actual bill that was passed by the Georgia state legislature we didn’t see the campus carry provisions that we were looking for, so …

WRAL’s Publishes Reasonable Piece on Guns

WRAL (the same folks who at one time published a database of concealed carry permit holders in Wake county) published a very reasonable piece on guns yesterday. In the article they reference two young kids who were killed in the area recently after finding an unsecured gun in their home. They actually took the time to go out to PDHSC and interview the staff there about how to safely store a gun, and they show …

The new “gun show loophole”: the “terrorism gap”

In Everytown’s opening salvo against the NRA, they spend a page coining a new term and then drum up a bunch of fear about it: The FBI currently has no authority to block firearm sales to individuals on the country’s terrorist watch lists — so someone deemed too dangerous to board a plane is allowed to buy guns under federal law. Gun owners, including NRA members, overwhelmingly support proposals to close this “terror gap:” a …

Hand Made Spalted Maple 1911 Grips

My cousin Alex sent me these pictures yesterday of some grips he’s making for his Kimber 1911. When he first told me about them, I pictured them in my head on a stainless 1911, but I think they will look even better on the dark blued pistol. This reminds me that I need to finish the micarta scales I started for my Becker BK2 over a year ago…

Could the Glock Unicorn be Released this Week?

I’m hearing some rumblings that there may be another new model from Glock released this weekend at the NRA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis. Could it be the unicorn singlestack 9mm, or will it be a subcompact, doublestack pistol in 9×25 dillon? Sadly, that seems more likely at this point. I don’t know. I feel like a 10 year old kid who still wants to believe in Santa, but knows he isn’t real anymore. If it …

NRA Goes Full Retard with Tillis Endorsement

Sigh. If we’re rating candidates solely on their 2A stance, Tillis has shown to be just OK. I don’t think he’s as bad as some are saying when it comes to 2A issues, but we have a better 2A candidate who has earned GRNC’s endorsement: Greg Brannon. Personally, I’m not in love with Brannon either, but if we’re rating candidates solely on their 2A stance (which is what the NRA and GRNC should be doing), …

5 Things That I Wish Would Go Away

1. Clip Holsters. If it doesn’t cover the trigger guard, it’s worthless. I don’t care if the gun has a manual safety, or what. Don’t even get me started on the ones that have a plug that goes up the muzzle. Garbage. 2. Other Minimalist Holsters. When you add in the size of the pistol, they aren’t really any smaller than a proper holster, and offer a ton of disadvantages. People are attracted to these …

Who Cares About Gun Safety?

With the news that Michael Bloomberg is launching yet another gun control group, this time called “Every Town for Gun Safety”, I thought we should have a look at who is actually promoting gun safety: [table caption=”Gun Safety Programs”] NRA,NSSF,Everytown et al,Brady Bunch, Eddie Eagle,Project Childsafe, A YouTube Video NRA Home Firearm Safety Course,Firearms Responsibility in the Home, NRA First Steps Rifle,Firearms Safety Depends On You, NRA First Steps Pistol,A Parent’s Guide To Recreational Shooting …

FILM REVIEW: SIR WALTER USPSA, APRIL 2014, PART 3

For some reason, in the last two stages of this seven stage match, I forgot how to stuff a fully-loaded magazine in to my 1911. Stage 2, the classifier, was the worst of my match. Due to USPSA’s scoring system, a small hiccup on a short stage hurts a lot more than on a long one. So doubling my stage time from sixish seconds to twelvish by not seating the magazine on the reload really …
