Tinfoil Hat: US Gov Creates Social Network to Stir Unrest in Cuba

I generally try not to stray too far from guns and gear and stuff like that here at Triangle Tactical, but sometimes there’s a story that I can’t let slip by without mentioning: The Washington Post is reporting that the US Government created a Twitter like social network in Cuba in order to stir unrest, and possibly overthrow Castro. I don’t like Castro. I don’t like communism, and I don’t like that the Cuban people …

A Look Into the .22lr Shortage

Ben and I mentioned this in the podcast earlier this week, but I thought I would share it for those of you who don’t listen : As you surely know, California Senator Leland Yee was arrested last week on allegations of gun running. In the 137 page affidavit, one quote jumped out as interesting to both Ben and I on page 67: Someone who is (allegedly) an international gun runner was only able to get …

Gun Classifieds are Hilarious

Browsing gun classified sights can be hilarious. Sometimes you’ll see the most tacticool rifles with 15lbs of gear bolted onto them, and other times you get a gem like this one. Maybe it isn’t all that funny, but I burst out laughing when I saw it last night, maybe because I wouldn’t give $200 for a Hi-Point either…

The Journey of a Thousand Miles

After this week’s episode of the podcast about how we got started in competitive shooting and the path we’ve taken to where we are today, I’ve been thinking about my own experience and the best way I can describe it is like gathering momentum. Something becomes the norm: shooting one match a month. And then you push a little beyond that, and shoot two matches a month for a while until that becomes normal. And …

A Witness With a CCW Permit Chased Him Down, Held Him at Gunpoint until Police Arrived

WDAM in Mississippi is reporting that a Lumberton, MS convience store manager was stabbed by a subject while working at the store. A witness who was in the store who had a concealed carry permit took off after the subject, and held him at gunpoint until police arrived. I commend the person for taking action, but I’m not sure I’d want to be the guy holding the gun when the police arrive. Not to Monday …

NC Highway Patrol Ditching M&Ps for Sigs

Back in August of 2013 we received word that the NC State Highway Patrol was having some extraction issues with their M&P .357 pistols, and they were supposedly working with S&W to fix the issue. I saw a post over on Carolina Shooters Club this afternoon saying that a members son, who is a SHP officer was recently issued a Sig Sauer 226 in .357Sig. I’ve confirmed with a handful of SHP officers over the …

Michigan: Short Barreled Rifle Bill Headed to Gov. Snyder

It’s no secret that I grew up in northern Michigan. Spent a lot of time hunting and fishing, and trying to sort out the absolutely wacked firearm laws up there. For years the state had handgun registration that required taking the proof of purchase of your pistol to the police department to register it (I’d really like to see the number of handguns sold vs. the number that were actually registered). Rifles that were perfectly …

Random Friday Night Thoughts

1. Sorry for the lack of good content this week! I came down with the crud Saturday afternoon after the Steel Challenge match, and I was totally out of commission for until late Tuesday. Fever, sore throat, cough, headache, etc. I’m a wuss when it comes to being sick, and I was down for the count. 2. Cleaning guns sucks, especially when I don’t have any Brakleen. I used to clean handguns after every range …

Florida Open Carry Fishing Events

Open carry is generally illegal in Florida, but the folks pushing for more rights down there aren’t letting that stop them from holding some open carry rallies in the state. As it turns out, Florida law allows for some exceptions where open carry of a handgun is legal, and one of those exceptions is while fishing. The open carry folks in Florida are taking full advantage of this, by organizing open carry fishing events in …
