3-Gun Dump Buckets

Over the weekend a video appeared (and subsequently seems to have been scrubbed from the internet) of a competitor safely dumping his pistol in a dump bucket that was resting on a blue barrel during a 3-gun stage, and as he moved from the position the dump bucket fell off of the barrel allowing the pistol to tumble out, earning the shooter a disqualification from the match. In response to the first video, the folks …

USPSA GM Blake Miguez turns State Representative, Gets Gun Safety Bill Passed

This is too cool: “The goal is to save children’s lives and protect our youth,” explained bill sponsor, Rep. Blake Miguez, R-Erath. Miguez is a competition shooter and former contestant on the History Channel’s Top Shot television program. Miguez’s legislation, HB 446, allows for public school districts to allocate time and funding to administer gun safety lessons modeled after the National Rifle Association’s Eddie Eagle GunSafe program and fold such instruction into existing curriculum. Forget …

Everytown Not Telling the Whole Story on NC Background Checks

Everytown has recently begun to play the following ad on TV here in NC: The trouble with the ad is that they aren’t being completely honest about background checks. The ad makes it seem that if HB562 were to pass, there would no longer be any background checks for handgun purchases in NC. Unfortunately for Everytown, background checks for purchasing a handgun from a dealer is a federal law, which isn’t affected by the North …

GADPA Rulebook Review

So in the past year or so, the folks at GADPA, a large Atlanta-area organization that oversees multiple matches, broke away from IDPA and announced they were writing their own rulebook. Well, it’s finally here and… well… I can’t say I’m eager to shoot a GADPA match. First off, the scoring is a mess. The target is another attempt to be more “realistic”. When IDPA came up with their target, they deleted the “credit card” …

Video of an Armed Home Invasion

Frightening stuff here. The bad guys clearly had very bad intentions after arming themselves and getting cabling (presumably to tie up the homeowners). What scares me is how long these guys were able to move around inside the home unnoticed. Also, good on the homeowner and his girlfriend for being armed, although I personally wouldn’t sleep in bed with a firearm in my bed, I prefer to just have it handy. (H/T r/firearms)

Being Out as a Gun Guy is Awesome Once Again

Back in February I wrote a post about being “out” as a gun owner, and how it’s been pretty awesome for me. Late last week a friend told me that I should introduce myself to a new guy at work, just saying “You guys would probably get along really well.” Being the “out” gun guy/gunblogger at work, that comment could only mean one thing: new guy likes guns. Today we crossed paths, and I grabbed him …
