I generally carry 9 round extended magazine as a backup for my Springfield Armory XDs 9mm. When I carried a S&W Shield, I carried the 8 round magazine as a backup, and when I carried a Glock 19, I kept a 17 round Glock 17 magazine as a backup. The obvious thing here is that the extended magazines stick out of the grip of the pistol a bit more than the standard magazines, and in …

I get a lot of questions about why I recommend certain singlestack 9mm concealed carry pistols and not others. Rather than type up a big long blog post, I figured I’d do something a little different and fire up the camera gear and do a video on the singlestack 9’s in my life, and why I like them. It basically comes down to a set of criteria that I’ve mentioned a few times: – 7+1 …

This afternoon I ventured out to find a box or two of Remington Golden Sabres in the 124gr (standard or +P, I don’t really care) variety. I had remembered a pretty reasonable price from the last time I was at Bass Pro in Cary, so I decided to hit Gander Mountain first, and then go to Bass Pro on the way home of Gander didn’t have what I needed. When I arrived at Gander Mountain, …

About a week ago, a friend sent me a couple pictures from a dealer trade show of an XDs 4.0. I didn’t look very closely at the picture and I assumed that it was a typo for an XDs .40S&W, which I was expecting, and honestly didn’t really get me very excited. Fast forward to today, and we see that Springfield Armory has released the XDs 4.0, which is a 4″ barreled version of the …

Guns America is reporting that the trigger on their upgraded XDs is about 8oz heavier than the previous trigger. Apparently their shooters couldn’t feel the difference, but they were able to measure it with a gauge. I’m not getting my hopes up, but I’m getting my hopes up.

Looking at the latest update that Springfield Armory posted on the Springfield Recall website, they announced that they are still testing possible fixes for the XDs pistols, and that they will begin repairing them once they come up with a fix. We originally estimated a 30-day turn-around time, but it has unfortunately taken longer to develop and identify an upgrade solution. Please know that we are continuing to test potential upgrade solutions at this time …
