BATFE eFile is Back, and Faster Than Ever

A few months back the BATFE shut down their eFile system for processing the forms needed to gain a tax stamp for a suppressors, and short barreled rifles and shotguns. The draw of the eFile system was that it provided turnaround for processing the forms in a matter of a month or two, as opposed to the six plus months that mailing in the forms.

Earlier this week the eFile system came back online, and it appears that the processing time for the forms is faster than ever. The Gun Trust Lawyer Blog is reporting that one of their clients received a 24 hour turnaround on his application.

If this turns out to be a normal thing, I think it will bring a lot of incentive for people like me to buy a suppressor. My biggest reason for not owning one has been the wait time…

  1. Do you know if the eforms are only for people with trusts? Would someone without a trust be able to use the eform without having CLEO sign off?

    • I don’t think so. Looking at the e-File website, it says this:

ATF anticipates that the eForms system will accept processing of Forms 6 and 6A initially, followed by forms 1, 2, 5, 9, 5300.11 and 10.

The CLEO signs off on a Form 4 and I don’t see that listed.

  2. Yes, have to have a trust for efile. Also Form 4 is still down, so you still have to file paper copy even with a trust until it comes back online.
