Alone on the Range: Safety

I’ve found myself using a small private shooting range in rural North Carolina all by myself recently. It’s probably the first time ever that I’ve been all alone while shooting, and this has prompted me to take some extra precautions. Unlike Tex Grebner, I’m not sure that I’d be able to fall back to my training and call my parents if I were to get hurt on the range, so I’ve been taking some precautions …

“Uhhhh…You Could Shoot at Them?”

Yesterday I bumped into an old coworker and I was reminded of a situation that took place a few years before he moved to another company. I was at work one day when this coworker stopped by and knocked on my office door. “Hey Lucas, I’ve got a bunch of old, rusty, half empty 1lb and 2lb propane tanks in my garage, do you want them?” I couldn’t think of a reason why I would …

LEAKED: Walther CCP Owners Manual

I’m excited about the Walther CCP, and have been since it was announced. I probably won’t buy one, but I think it stands as a cool pistol that I’ll definitely want to get some range time with. Not long ago, I found out that the owners manual for the Walther CCP has been leaked on the Walther website (100 page .pdf). The owners manual gives us a better look into how the pistol works, so …

I’m Humbled

Over the past few days y’all have left us some really amazing feedback on iTunes regarding the podcast. I’m humbled, really. We put a lot of work into the podcast, but when I say it’s my favorite thing to do every week, I mean it. It’s amazing to me that y’all listen in every week, and still surprises me every time I’m at the range and someone comes up to me and says “Hey, are …

Dry Fire Protip #1 – Magazine Baseplate Retainers

During the summer months I brought my dry fire practice into the living room, and lined up my targets across the top of the TV. This worked great, but I wasn’t able to move as much as I would have liked, so now that the weather has cooled down a bit, I spent most of the evening last night getting the garage all set up again for dry fire. All summer I just used my …

Sheriff Harrison: Home Invasions, Thefts from Vehicles on the Rise

WRAL published a piece with Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison regarding the rise of home invasions, and thefts from vehicles in southern and eastern Wake county It appears that most of the incidents are happening when people leave their vehicles or homes unlocked and the criminals are taking advantage of this. What Can You Do? Lock your car, and hide your junk. Seriously. If you leave something valuable in your car (anything they can be …

All Kydex Holsters Are Not Created Equal

Whenever I have a couple minutes to kill, I like to cruise Instagram hashtags and see what cool new stuff is relevant to my interests. Hashtags like #USPSA, #IDPA, and #3gun are a few of my favorites, but recently I’ve come across another hashtag that brings more talent, and absolute derp at the same time that it’s quickly become my favorite one to follow: #kydex If you’re not familiar with Instagram it’s basically an easily …

Glock 19 Concealed Carry Modifications

As you probably know, I recently picked up a Gen4 Glock 19 as a new concealed carry pistol. I wanted to go back to a doublestack gun, and I also wanted something that was very similar to my Glock 34 that I shoot in competition. I don’t tend to make a lot of modifications to my carry pistols, but I’ve done a couple things to the Glock 19: Custom Grip Plug Funnel Glock pistols have …

Streamlight ProTac HL Tailcap/Switch Mod

Last fall I picked up a Streamlight ProTac HL flashlight to use for the Day-Night-Day match, since at the time I didn’t have a suitable flashlight. I had more than a little trouble with the light during the match, and afterwards I considered making some modifications to it, but just couldn’t bring myself to start hacking on (what at the time was) a $100 flashlight. Fast forward a year or so, and I’ve actually been …
