NPM: Fill Yer Tank!

One piece of advise that my dad gave me when I first started driving was “It doesn’t cost any more to keep your tank full, than it does to keep it empty”. This is the truth, and it’s something that I’ve always kept in the back of my mind. I do my best to never let my car go below 1/4 tank. You never know when you might have to ride out a storm on …

NPM: Emergency Water Storage in your Bathtub

You might have barrels full of water just waiting for an emergency situation, but if you are like most of the rest of us, you probably don’t. The Red Cross sells an ingenious solution for storing a lot of water during an emergency. Its a big plastic bag that lays out in your bathtub, and when filled holds a lot of water. It’s a one time use item, so don’t order it and try it …

Brian Aitken Appeals to SCOTUS

You may remember Brian Aitken as the guy who was arrested in New Jersey for transporting his legally owned guns, and hollow point ammunition to his new house. He served some time before his sentence was commuted by Gov. Christie. Although he got out of jail, his conviction still stands, and he has lost his rights. I’ve been following his Facebook Page since the beginning, and just a couple days ago Brian posted an update …

WRAL CCW Database Still Live

Although HB937 doesn’t take effect for another week and a half, WRAL still has not taken down their database of concealed carry permit holders. If my interpretation of HB937 is correct this database will be illegal come October 1st of this year. I’ll be keeping an eye on this to see if the database comes down before the new law takes effect. We’ll see.

NPM: Can You Start a Fire?

Ok city slickers, when was the last time you practiced starting a fire? If Reagan was still in the white house, you probably need some more practice. In my house, everything is electric. I don’t even have a natural gas line going down my street, so if the power goes out during a storm, I need an alternative way to cook and produce heat. I’ve recommended Firesteel.com firesteels in the past (they aren’t a sponsor, …

One Week

Next Tuesday North Carolina House Bill 937 goes into law. We will finally, after a several year long struggle, gain the ability to protect ourselves in a restaurant that serves alcohol. Don’t let the media, and the anti-gun crowd fool you, it’s still illegal to consume alcohol and carry a concealed handgun. The records surrounding concealed carry and purchase permits will no longer be public record, protecting us from more databases like the one created …

Sunday Reading… and Random Thoughts From the Week

Back in 1961 a nuclear bomb was nearly detonated over Goldsboro, NC when an Air Force bomber crashed. Scary stuff, but an interesting read. McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts both have the same policy as Starbucks. I’d dare say that most national retailers have the same policy, so why did Starbucks get singled out for all of the ‘Appreciation Days’? Mr. Andrew Branca was nice enough to send Ben and I a copy of his book …

Is Illinois On The Road To Constitutional Carry?

This is a pretty big deal. 103 cases dismissed so far after gun laws were ruled unconstitutional in IL. From Fox 32 News Chicago, interviewing a Chicago Police Spokesperson: “It would not be prudent for citizens to carry loaded firearms in public, whether they possess a valid Firearm Owners ID card or not. As for whether these cases would result in criminal charges…I would only say that we would evaluate any individual incident on a …
