Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center

After posting some videos, and write ups about the matches at the Wake County Firearms Education and Training Center, I have had a few questions about the range, who operates it, where it is located, etc. I hear time and time again on the web forums that there isn’t anywhere to shoot a rifle in the Triangle area. This is 100% false. Wake County operates a large indoor firing range called the Wake County Firearms …

Wake Co. Action Pistol – 3/19/12

I am just getting home from the low-light Action Pistol match at the Wake Co. Firearms Education and Training Center. Tonights match consisted of two stages with low light, that were shot using either a handheld flashlight, or a weapon-light attached to the pistol. I prefer a weapon-light, so I attached my Streamlight TLR-1 to my Glock 24, and shot the match with that. The first stage consisted of 3 IPSC targets at 7 yards. …

Calendar for Triangle Area Shooting Sports.

I just spent some time compiling about every action shooing sport that I could think of in the Triangle area, and adding them to a Google Calendar. Check the link here, and you can then add this to your own Google calendar, or you can just keep coming back here, and checking it. I tried to embed it, but WordPress is being picky. If I missed anything, let me know, I’ll get it added. There …

Concealed Carry Pistol Review – Kel-Tec PF-9

I’m going to start a small series of posts on concealed carry pistols, and the pro’s and con’s of each, based on my experience with the pistol. Lets start it off with the Kel-Tec PF-9. Kel-Tec PF-9 The first pistol I purchased specifically for the purpose of carrying, was a Kel-Tec PF-9. At the time, it was the smallest, thinnest 9mm pistol on the market. I bought it to use as a pocket gun, thinking …

Concealed Carry

In this post, I want to cover some points on concealed carry. With 49 states now allowing some form of concealed carry for citizens, and more and more passing “shall issue” laws every year, concealed carry of firearms has swept the nation. Americans are no longer allowing themselves to be victimized, and are instead standing their ground, and defending themselves from those who wish to do them harm. I’ve been carrying a concealed handgun for …

Wake Co. Action Rifle Match 3-5-2012

Last night a couple of us headed down from Raleigh to the Wake Co. Firearms Education and Training Center for the monthly Action Rifle match. I have recently added some Quick Detach sling swivels to my rifle, and was excited to shoot with a properly attached sling, as I had been running the sling literally tied around the free float rail for a couple months. Anyways, we had a great turnout, and many good shooters …

Safety Rant.

I’ve been noticing a disturbing trend lately, and that trend is stories about people being shot on the news, and the reporters saying some BS line about the firearm “just going off!”. Sorry folks, firearms don’t “just go off”. They go off, when someone pulls the trigger. When Plaxico Burress shot himself, it was all over the news about how his [gasp] Glock [/gasp] went off in his pants. I’d be willing to bet that …

Caswell Ranch IDPA 2-26-2012

Yesterday I headed up to Caswell Ranch for an IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) shooting match. I used to shoot IDPA quite frequently, but over the past year or so, I have begun to shoot more multi-gun matches and less IDPA and other pistol only matches. This was my first time at Caswell Ranch (usually shoot IDPA at The Range, in Oxford, NC), and I was very impressed with the facility. Lots of well built …

Carolina Gunrunners Grand Opening

After the C&E gun show today, we headed over to Carolina Gunrunners for their Grand Opening celebration. These guys continue to amaze me with their willingness to take feedback, and carry the items that their customers want. They have been soliciting feedback from area shooters on local shooting web forums, and shooters were telling them that they wanted a shop that carried reloading supplies. CGR wasn’t originally planning to carry reloading supplies, but they took …
