TWANGnBANG on the Armatix Smart Pistol

Yes, that TWANGnBANG: Post by TWANGnBANG. I think he’s absolutely right. The “smart” gun maker has already been rejected by the commercial gun market in the US, and I don’t think there’s a police department anywhere in the country that would seriously consider arming their officers with this thing. In fact, in every circumstance that I’ve come across where a bill has been introduced or talked about to make smart guns the law, law enforcement …

Alcohol At A GunShow?

The folks at Bearing Arms put up a blog post tonight about a proposal in Texas that would allow alcohol sales at Gun Shows in the state. My first thought was  “bad idea”, but then I read the rules: Under the proposal, any show allowing alcohol would have to meet the following criteria: No live ammunition sales. All guns must be disabled. Customers may not leave with purchased alcohol. No live ammo sales at a …

Holding an Intruder at Gunpoint Selfie

From Reddit: “Cousin just posted this from his facebook, guy tried to kick in his door only to be met with an ar-15 on the other side. He’s keeping him under citizens arrest till the cops arrive.” I have two things to say about this: Good on the homeowner for being armed and willing to protect himself. How far downhill has our society slid that when someone is in fear for his life, his first …

Pic of the Day: .40 Doesn’t Equal .45

This morning I pulled my car up to the range, and opened the door. Just as I was about to step out a couple casings on the ground caught my eye. For a split second I thought they were some exotic bottleneck cartridge, then realized, no, someone just shot a magazine of .40S&W through their .45ACP pistol.

Jerry Miculek’s 1000 Yard Shot: The Final Chapter

Okay, you’re sick of hearing about it, but give me a chance to make my closing statement, if you will. First off, regarding the part in my original post about Instructor Zero: On the other hand, I’ve gotten a lot of feedback about my strongly worded rebuke of Jerry Miculek, particularly the “making luck look like skill” comment. Perhaps my friends are right. I even had one non-shooter buddy comment to me that he remembers …

My Thoughts on Ben’s Thoughts on the Miculek Video

Yesterday Ben wrote a blog post in response to my excitement about the YouTube video of Jerry Miculek shooting and hitting a target at 1000 yards with a revolver. Ben stated that these types of videos aren’t the best way to bring people into the shooting sports because they make good marksmanship look unobtainable, and that they make luck look like skill. I don’t disagree on the latter point, to an extent. When only one …

What the Video Doesn’t Show

The other day, Luke posted a link to a video of Jerry Miculek shooting a 9mm revolver at a target 1000 yards away. The very sensationalist video (“WORLD RECORD!”) purports to show Jerry hitting a party balloon with an unmagnified red dot optic and a 6 inch barrel revolver. What Jerry is actually doing is shooting a steel plate (I’d approximate it at two feet by four feet) and popping the balloon with a splattering …

Harnett County, NC Sheriff Rollins Urges Citzens To Arm Themselves

After a recent spike of violent crime in rural Harnett County, NC, Sheriff Rollins is urging citizens to arm themselves. “When I am out with my family, even though I am a cop, I don’t go anywhere without a gun,” Rollins told the crowd. “I mean it’s sad we have to have that attitude, but I am going to protect myself and my family. I want my deputies at your house just as fast as …

Gastonia, NC Looking To Build “Shooting Park”

According to the Gastonia Gazette, Gastonia, NC has set aside $150,000 to use in acquiring land for building a “shooting park” that would contain skeet fields, and could host tournaments. Councilwoman Brenda Craig, a leading proponent of the idea, said it emerged last year. It resulted from complaints about the sounds of gunfire at the newly renovated Rankin Lake Park. Rankin Lake has been a popular recreation destination since the park’s 2012 refurbishment. But visitors …
