Woody’s Designated Marksman Match is about the only long range match in the Triangle area and it’s a bit of a hidden gem. It’s held at Woody’s Hunt and Rifle Club, just outside of Apex, and not far from Raleigh at all. I’m not a long range shooter, but sometime in the future, I’d really like to get out and shoot Woody’s match. Anyways, I just came across this video about the match, check it …

News is coming out this morning about a child and mother that were attacked by a rabid fox in Hope Mills, NC. The fox scratched the child, but the mother, went after the pet dogs, and was killed by the child’s father. Living in a townhome community having lots of neighbors with pets packed in close, I carry to defend against critters of the 4-legged variety as much as I do the 2-legged variety. We’re …

On the most recent episode of Gun Talk with Tom Gresham, Massad Ayoob was a guest, and the two talked about Joseph Wilcox, the armed citizen in Las Vegas that gave his life attempting to stop the psycho killers that had burst into the WalMart where he was. Mas brings up other cases where armed citizens have saved the day, one that I hadn’t heard of before: The University of Texas bell tower shooting in …

(Video link for Email/Rss Readers) I guess this is a way to keep people from doing those IDPA “baby steps” that Ben talked about last week. I’d like to see this in an IDPA match, although I think the match directors would be concerned about someone missing a step, and falling on the treadmill with a gun in their hand. Who’s got an old treadmill?

Late last week we received information that Facebook had completed an experiment to determine if showing users more happy or sad stories in their news feed would have an impact on their mood. Ben hasn’t posted this yet, so I figured I’d go ahead and post it for him. He made a last minute switch from his M&P Pro 9mm to his Glock 17 before the match, and it paid off for him with a match bump from Expert to Master! Not only did he do a great job at the match, but he also spent a lot of time putting together the video from the match, and …

A few months back the BATFE shut down their eFile system for processing the forms needed to gain a tax stamp for a suppressors, and short barreled rifles and shotguns. The draw of the eFile system was that it provided turnaround for processing the forms in a matter of a month or two, as opposed to the six plus months that mailing in the forms. Earlier this week the eFile system came back online, and …

For the past few months it seems like there’s been nothing but bad news on the Remington front. In the beginning of 2014 we were all excited to see the Remington R51, the first non-1911 pistol from Remington in a long time. The R51 took the internet by storm, bringing tons and tons of traffic to sites like this. It seemed that something was up when the pistol didn’t make an appearance for Media Day …

In about the last 24hrs tropical storm Arthur has went from a small tropical depression off the coast of Florida to the first named tropical storm of the season. Weather headlines earlier today were saying that the storm was strengthening faster than expected, and by Thursday night it’s possible we could have a Category 2 hurricane right here in NC.
