Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014

The Library of Congress finally got the full text of the bill up so we can read it. Ben and I were concerned about a backdoor in the bill, and we talked about that on Episode 64 of the podcast, but after reading the full text, it’s a pretty straight forward, one page, vanilla bill. We definitely need to keep a close eye on it, as it would be very easy to slip in a …

“You’re Not Tactical Enough”

I’m somewhat regularly accused of “not being tactical enough”, and I guess to someone dropping by the website expecting to see pictures and videos of me playing tactical dress up, maybe I’m not “tactical enough”. I think of the word “tactical”  with a very specific definition, and I didn’t name this blog Triangle Tactical because its cool to have a word followed by “tactical” as the name for a business or blog or whatever. The …

No Remington R51 Pistols at SHOT Media Day?

Rumor is that big green didn’t bring any Remington R51 pistols to Media Day on the Range at SHOT show yesterday (It’s a rumor, because I’m not at SHOT show). The R51 came it of nowhere a week or so ago, and has been one of the most talked about guns being released this year, overshadowing the Glock 42. Remington had an opportunity to put the pistol in the hands of tons of bloggers, podcasters, …

Springfield Armory introduces the XDs 4.0

About a week ago, a friend sent me a couple pictures from a dealer trade show of an XDs 4.0. I didn’t look very closely at the picture and I assumed that it was a typo for an XDs .40S&W, which I was expecting, and honestly didn’t really get me very excited. Fast forward to today, and we see that Springfield Armory has released the XDs 4.0, which is a 4″ barreled version of the …

TWANGnBANG Shoots a Windshield

TWANGnBANG on YouTube does some pretty awesome testing with my favorite 9mm round for concealed carry and a car windshield. Check it out! Note how little penetration the round gets into the gel block after going through the windshield. Interesting stuff.

The Misguided Moms Actually Get It Right…

A Kentucky legislator didn’t clear the chamber of her concealed carry pistol, and had an negligent discharge in her office on Wednesday. The Misguided Moms apparently made a statement that actually makes perfect sense: The Kentucky chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America said lawmakers should be held to the highest standards and never put others at risk. As someone who holds a lot of contempt for most of our elected officials …

Skills vs. Tools

I’ve been dwelling on a Robert Heinlein quote for a few days, and I think that he says something really important here that most probably don’t realize: “A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new …

Just to be Clear: Your Laser Sight is a Sight

And your weapon mounted light, is a sight too. We all read the news earlier this week about the NY State Homeland Security cheif being incredibly irresponsible using his laser sight as a laser pointer during a presentation. This is something that we all agree isn’t kosher. Unfortunately if we swap out laser with weapon light, some folks I  the firearm community change their mind. Let’s back up a bit: I want a weapon mounted …

Eastern NC is Awesome for Competition Shooting

I spent most of the day today entering events into the Triangle Tactical Shooting Sports Calendar for 2014. In years past I’ve attempted to keep up with every action shooting type match in the state, but it was too much to try and keep up with, so this year instead of doing a mediocre job with the entire state, I decided to try and do a really good job with the greater Triangle area. I …

Getting Outdoors

Back before I was really into competitive shooting, I spent a lot of time doing day hikes, and geocaching all over the Triangle. Since I began spending more and more of my weekends on the shooting range, and more and more of my days off writing, and doing what my wife calls “blog stuff”, I’ve been spending a lot less time outdoors doing the things that I love. Today was an absolutely beautiful day, even …
